OCEAN REVIVAL 2020 | OUR CHARITIES

Main Logo

Royal Marines have always been the first to understand, first to adapt and respond and the first to overcome – that is the Commando Mindset, but today Royal Marines and their families are fighting battles they cannot win alone.

RECOVERY PATHWAY

Helping the wounded and injured in any way we can, particularly as the most severely injured begin their transition into civilian life; quite simply, The Royal Marines Charity will help when others cannot.

THROUGH LIFE PATHWAY

The Royal Marines Charity Through Life Pathway support of individual serving and retired Royal Marines in need is administered through our sister Corps organisation the Royal Marines Association which has 82 membership branches across the country to encourage mutual support.

QUALITY OF LIFE PATHWAY

Helping those still serving and facing successive tours in high threat environments by providing adventure training for those returning from operations, funding homecoming events, financing memorials and maintaining our heritage.

Plastic Oceans UK was founded by Jo Ruxton and Sonja Norman in 2009. They embarked on their first project, creating the film A Plastic Ocean, to raise awareness of the plastic pollution issue. That mission became a reality in January 2017, when the film launched on a global scale. The foundation has since developed 3 pillars of identity: our science, sustainability and education programmes.

OUR EDUCATION PROBLEM

What sets us apart as an organisation is that we have a global view of the issue and have worked with scientists for 8 years, out on the ocean and in the laboratories. We have witnessed and documented the disturbing consequences of ingested plastic in seabirds, turtles, marine mammals and fish. And we want to pass that knowledge to as many as we can.

THE IMPORTANCE OF SCIENCE

Our team here in the UK has always believed that any information released by our Foundation is backed by peer-reviewed science and this was never more important than it was in the film. Every fact was reviewed and double-checked to ensure there were no sensationalist statements that might later undermine our credibility with policy-makers and our partners at Brunel have been on-hand throughout and since the production began.

SUSTAINABILITY - WORKING WITH BUSINESS

As the UK’s first environmental NGO focused on plastics, we are proud of the contribution we have made to raise awareness on the wastefulness of our society and the impact plastics is causing on a global scale. Following our film, we are focused on the legacy actions that will change that impact within a generation. A critical element is how business and society is able to effect change – in our use and re-use of plastics.
